Lacoste Anyone?

I got this news from the ABS-CBN news website. A resident spotted a crocodile in one of the floodwaters of Cainta. He took a picture of it, along with 3 other witnesses. It has been reported that this crocodile must have escaped from the Pasig Rainforest Park and there could be more crocodiles, and other creatures out there. Scary.

According to his accounts:

“It was pitch black. There was no electricity or whatever,” he recalled. “But we
had a flash light. We trained our flashlight on the thing and saw that it was a
crocodile.”

Scared by the close encounter, Lambert said they stepped back slowly by a few feet and avoided making sudden movements. “We didn’t panic because we didn’t want to alarm it.”
Creepy.

The worse part is, Pasig city Mayor Robert Eusebio denied earlier that any of the crocodiles from the forest park escaped. He said that the animals in the Park are well kept in their respective cages.

So this could mean that the animal may come from wherever, and there could be more out there. They may have inhabited the swampy areas of the river, I dunno...

This resident's encounter with the crocodile is not the only one involving wildlife that victims reported in the aftermath of the disaster wrought by typhoon Ondoy. At the height of the floods, some residents also reported of snakes suddenly appearing in their houses.

Manila Tragedy

The past few days have been really terrible for our friends and folks who are based in Manila and some parts of the north. The calamity brought about by typhoon Ondoy has brought sufferings to a lot of our brothers and sisters who are based in Luzon.

I have been watching the news for the past 4 days and indeed a lot of areas have not yet been reached by our voluteers who took care of the relief operations. It's sad to think that from someone who lives a bit far from the metropolis so isolated from the tragedy, the only way we can help is by sending in relief in any way possible. The most basic of needs are scarce in most areas in Manila and it really gets painful to think of the people, especially the children, the sick and those who cant fight for themselves who are flooded and drenched with nothing decent to drink or eat.

We have been running our own Ondoy relief campaign here in the office and it is so overwhelming that colleagues, even with the emptiest wallets, have pitched in just to be able to reach our fellowmen in need. It even becomes more overwhelming to think that the rest of our countrymen are doing the same.

My condolences to those families who lost their loved ones. Relief and restoration is something that we all can work on hand in hand, but the loss of a loved one is too big a wound to heal. My prayers go out to all of you who have lost their loved ones, homes, possessions, jobs… I couldn’t think of any other more powerful tool than prayers.

God is good, and God will always be good.

A Pageant for AlternativesOn an island famed for raising the natural to preternatural, with a penchant for beauty pageants (there is one for every barangay), it was only a matter of time before Cebu celebrated beauty beyond the ladies and gentlemen. Queen, the first on this grand a scale, brings you to the world of the ladies who are gentlemen, and the gentlemen who are ladies.Join us in an unforgettable night this September as we crown Cebu’s new Queen.

THE PAGEANT Like any beauty pageant, one is to expect pomp, but unlike any other beauty pageant, Queen brings everything to overdrive: The flamboyance of the National Costume segment, the impossible gowns, the anticipated question and answer, the million-and-one costume changes, the production numbers, all in the magnificent Waterfront Cebu City Hotel Grand Ballroom. There isn’t a moment of lifelessness in a pageant gone all right like Queen. The pageant is everything you expected, and not unlike the candidates, with a little extra.

THE LITTLE EXTRA More than showcasing an alternative lifestyle, the pageant for alternatives aims to bring to the forefront real, sustainable solutions to the candidate’s charity or movement of choice. Asked to formulate a solid plan of action for a chosen cause, a major aspect in the pre-judging of Queen, it will highlight how our ladies are not only beautiful on the outside, but the singular fact that it is their philanthropy that sets them apart from the rest.

THE CANDIDATES Screened for both beauty and brains, the ladies are the crème da le crème of this particular segment of Cebu society. Queen’s new crop are both physically daunting with a sound, outspoken mind; They are truly the embodiment of the best of both worlds.

Now doesnt that give your the goosebumps? We've never had a serious gay pageant in Cebu in years! This one's just awesome...

The Way We Were

I was looking for the perfect chick-flick for the weekend and I stumbled accross The Way We Were, starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford (1973). And thank God there were quite a few seeders on this torrent file that I downloaded for like forever.

One of the best movies I have ever seen. If youre looking for a total feel-good tear-jerker (I dont know what that is, but I was crying the whole movie but I felt really good right after), this movie is it.

Katie: I don't have the right style for you do I?
Hubbell : No you don't have the right style.
Katie: I'll change.
Hubbell: No, don't change. You're your own girl, you have your own style.
Katie: But then I won't have you. Why can't I have you?
Hubbell: Because you push too hard, every damn minute. There's no time to ever relax and enjoy living. Every things too serious to be so serious.
Katie: If I push too hard it's because I want things to be better, I want us to be better, I want you to be better. Sure I make waves you have I mean you have to. And I'll keep making them till your everything you should be and will be. You'll never find anyone as good for you as I am, to believe in you as much as I do or to love you as much.
Hubbell: I know that.
Katie: Well then why?
Hubbell : Do you think if I come back its going to be okay by magic? What's going to change? What's going to be different? We'll both be wrong, we'll both lose.
Katie: Couldn't we both win?

Plot:

A story about star-crossed lovers Katie Morosky and Hubbell Gardiner, who meet at college in the 1930s. Their differences are immense: she is a stridently vocal Marxist Jew with strong anti-war opinions, and he is a carefree WASP with no particular political bent.

When Hubbell seeks a job as a Hollywood screenwriter, Katie believes he's wasting his talent and encourages him to pursue writing as a serious challenge instead. Despite her growing frustration, they move to California, where he becomes a successful albeit desultory screenwriter, and the couple enjoys an affluent lifestyle.

Alienated by Katie's persistent abrasiveness, Hubbell has an affair with Carol Ann, his college girlfriend and the ex-wife of his best friend J.J., even though Katie is pregnant.

Katie and Hubbell decide to part when she finally understands he is not the man she idealized when she fell in love with him and will always choose the easiest way out, whether it is cheating in his marriage or writing predictable stories for sitcoms.

Well we didnt have a happy ending on this movie. In the final scene, Katie and Hubbell meet by coincidence, several years after their divorce. Katie, now re-married, invites Hubbell to come for a drink with his lady friend, but he confesses he can't.

The most touching part for me was in the fial scene when Katie touched Hubbel's head to fix his hair. Katie's response acknowledges what they both finally understand: Hubbell was at his best when he was with her, and no one will ever believe in him or see as much promise in him as she once did. Their past is behind them; all the two share now, besides their daughter, is a memory of the way they were.

Katie: Your girl is lovely, Hubbell. Why don't you bring her for a drink when you come?
Hubbell : I can't come, Katie. I can't...
Katie : I know...

*sobs* :)

Perv

The weirdest thing happened in Church last Sunday.

As quite a few of you know, I do regular Sunday worship at Bread. I went there and sat at my usual seat beside a guy who had this odd-looking hair (remember Wowie de Guzman's hair during his Juday-Wowee days?). He looked dirty, and he looked more odd when you look at him amidst a pool of people on their best Sunday attire. He looked weird by the way. Pockmarks, chapped lips, oily skin and hair, his shirt was dirty and his shoes were too big for his feet.

Anyways, at the very beginning of this worship, this guy kept glancing at me. During the prayer before sermon, I could feel his elbows touching mine. I didn’t mind coz the place was jam-packed and the chairs shared armrests. During the whole sermon, he kept on touching my elbows and I kept on avoiding it. It came to a point when I intentionally crossed my arms so to give him the idea that I was not comfortable with his gestures.

I would glance at him and he would smile. His teeth were crooked and if I wasn’t in Church, I wouldve snapped and tell him right to his face that he should see a dentist, or brush his yellow teeth at the very least.

But no. Instead I focused on the Pastor's sermon, with my arms crossed super close to my chest almost right below my chin actually. If someone who knew passed by and saw me, he would assume that I was chilling. I did this so he couldn’t touch me AT ALL.

When he noticed that he didn’t have access to my elbows, he then used his legs to touch mine. The chair was big, and he had short legs, so he looked peculiar stretching his legs far out just to reach mine. I crossed my legs and pointed them to the direction opposite his. He stretched his legs too, this time, his legs were already occupying half the floor area right in front of my chair.

If I could just squeeze myself into one small ball, I would do it.

The agony lasted until the end of service. I just found it so unusual that these kinds of people do exist. Im not trying to come out clean, I mean I do have some naughty moments at a public place too. But my god, we're in a Church for goddsakes!

Next Sunday I swear Im gonna sit beside the choir.
