Car Chases. More fun in the Philippines

Been waiting for trailer number 2, the one that actually has scenes shot here in Pinas. And here it is. The car chase scene is off the roof, as in wow, EDSA never looked this awesome to me before. Hahaha.

Mark your calendars, people. August 3. The Bourne Legacy.

Les Miserables

Now this is what I call a powerhouse cast.
Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russel Crowe as Inspector Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, Sacha Baron Cohen as Thenardier and my favorite character actress of all time--- Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier.

I am officially hating the very talented Miss Hathaway
I smell Oscars already... You guys, it's Les Miserables! :)

Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah

I forgot to post this...

Two weeks ago, we got to watch the return of the Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah The Musicale at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). Hubby knows Im a sucker for stage plays and though all the tickets were sold out, we managed to sneak our way in. It was an awesome experience for me coz I've been itching to watch this since I read about from Icon Magazine (remember that awesome mag???) back in 2005. I was wishing there would be a Cebu staging of this play, but nada.

I'm not a big fan of the movie. I personally think the movie starring Zsa Zsa and Rustom was a complete blasphemy of how great this musicale is. The show that I got to watch starred Eula Valdez as Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah and boy was she hilarious. I havent seen that side of her, and she really gave justice to the role. I heard there was another staging before that starred Kay Brosas and I wish I got to watch that coz Im a big fan. She fits this role like a glove :) Anyway, no regrets, Eula was just as awesome and the whole show was a HUGE success as always.

After the show, BBK and I got to take pictures of the characters. He even introduced me to the men behind the Musicale--- The Stage Director, the Musical Director and the cartoon writer. It was a very sentimental moment for me. I'm a big fan of musicales :)

The Oscars and Adong's Despidida

I didnt get to wath the Oscars this morning coz I woke up really really late. I went home at around 5 in the morning coz I opted to spend my Sunday evening with my cousin Adong who's gonna be leaving the country in 2 weeks. He's actually my biggest partner-in-in crime and I'm surely gonna miss our trips to occasional (Sunday) Doce together. Spice Girls songs wont be as much fun without my cuzzie dear.

Oh well, that's life. People come, people go. And it's not like Singapore is on a totally different planet. It's just a text, a call, a facebook chat or even a promo fare away so I guess I shouldnt get sad at all. Cuz, I wish you all the luck you need with your new job.

Go the world and get rich, yoohoo!

Back to the Oscars---

As soon as I woke up, I immediately looked for torrent files of the show (just as I did when I missed this year's Grammy's). Unfortunately, nobody ever had the heart to upload anything so I guess I'm gonna give it a few more days. I'll just try to feed myslef with as much photos from the red carpet and some stills on the show itself. Damn, watching the show would be a million times better though so I pray theres gonna be seeds really soon.

The Way We Were

I was looking for the perfect chick-flick for the weekend and I stumbled accross The Way We Were, starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford (1973). And thank God there were quite a few seeders on this torrent file that I downloaded for like forever.

One of the best movies I have ever seen. If youre looking for a total feel-good tear-jerker (I dont know what that is, but I was crying the whole movie but I felt really good right after), this movie is it.

Katie: I don't have the right style for you do I?
Hubbell : No you don't have the right style.
Katie: I'll change.
Hubbell: No, don't change. You're your own girl, you have your own style.
Katie: But then I won't have you. Why can't I have you?
Hubbell: Because you push too hard, every damn minute. There's no time to ever relax and enjoy living. Every things too serious to be so serious.
Katie: If I push too hard it's because I want things to be better, I want us to be better, I want you to be better. Sure I make waves you have I mean you have to. And I'll keep making them till your everything you should be and will be. You'll never find anyone as good for you as I am, to believe in you as much as I do or to love you as much.
Hubbell: I know that.
Katie: Well then why?
Hubbell : Do you think if I come back its going to be okay by magic? What's going to change? What's going to be different? We'll both be wrong, we'll both lose.
Katie: Couldn't we both win?

Plot:

A story about star-crossed lovers Katie Morosky and Hubbell Gardiner, who meet at college in the 1930s. Their differences are immense: she is a stridently vocal Marxist Jew with strong anti-war opinions, and he is a carefree WASP with no particular political bent.

When Hubbell seeks a job as a Hollywood screenwriter, Katie believes he's wasting his talent and encourages him to pursue writing as a serious challenge instead. Despite her growing frustration, they move to California, where he becomes a successful albeit desultory screenwriter, and the couple enjoys an affluent lifestyle.

Alienated by Katie's persistent abrasiveness, Hubbell has an affair with Carol Ann, his college girlfriend and the ex-wife of his best friend J.J., even though Katie is pregnant.

Katie and Hubbell decide to part when she finally understands he is not the man she idealized when she fell in love with him and will always choose the easiest way out, whether it is cheating in his marriage or writing predictable stories for sitcoms.

Well we didnt have a happy ending on this movie. In the final scene, Katie and Hubbell meet by coincidence, several years after their divorce. Katie, now re-married, invites Hubbell to come for a drink with his lady friend, but he confesses he can't.

The most touching part for me was in the fial scene when Katie touched Hubbel's head to fix his hair. Katie's response acknowledges what they both finally understand: Hubbell was at his best when he was with her, and no one will ever believe in him or see as much promise in him as she once did. Their past is behind them; all the two share now, besides their daughter, is a memory of the way they were.

Katie: Your girl is lovely, Hubbell. Why don't you bring her for a drink when you come?
Hubbell : I can't come, Katie. I can't...
Katie : I know...

*sobs* :)

Adopt Me?

I went to Manila over the weekend to do some stuff and came back to Cebu Sunday afternoon.

Alone.

I had no choice but to call a few friends to adopt me coz I got so bored around 9pm.

I had coffee with JJ and Marie, lit a few sticks and engaged into some nice conversation to while away the time. I think everyone like me who works hard for 5 straight days would truly deserve to enjoy a warm cup of coffee and some awesome friends to spend time with at a nice rooftop café overlooking a pretty part of the city.

We drove a few blocks to scout for DVD stores. I found myself the perfect weekend movie.

Oscars---

I stayed up the whole Monday morning to watch the Oscar’s coverage. I was fighting off sleep and the urge to go elsewhere. Monday is still “technically” part of my days off so I either meaningfully spend it off sleeping or having a good cup of coffee at a my favorite coffeeshop.

Today is different. The Oscar’s is like the Superbowl of all the yummiest movies of the year, I cannot miss it. And this year, I was excited about who’s gonna grab the Best Actress Award. I’m torn between Anne Hathaway and Kate Winslet. Simply put, I’m torn between wanting to see the young ones like Anne win, or the nominated-for-the-millionth-time like Kate bag the crown at last.

My efforts finally paid off--- seeing Kate win is GOLDEN. Highlights for me--- Angelina and Brad both nominated for top awards, Heath Ledger getting an Oscar after his death, Hugh Jackman hosting and Slumdog Millionaire winning the Best Picture.

And then red carp some eye-candies for you---
